For many of us, winter is not just a passion but a way of life. Winter sports and tourism, moreover, make a huge contribution to the economy in France. But winters are becoming shorter and more unreliable. The past decade has been the warmest on record and our mountain regions are suffering more than most. The average temperature in the Mont Blanc region has risen 1.5 degrees C in 75 years, twice the global average.
In 2007, pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones found that more and more resorts he’d always counted on for good riding were suffering from lack of snow. Something was clearly going on, and he felt the need to act. So he founded Protect Our Winters.
From those beginnings, the POW community has grown now to include over 100,000 supporters in 11 countries, more than 60 of the top professional athletes in the world of winter sports in our Riders Alliance, and partnerships with some of the most respected outdoor brands, resorts and small businesses throughout the snow industry.
Protect Our Winters France started in 2015 and, together with our sister associations in Austria, Finland and Norway, and POW in the US, we form a growing network across Europe and internationally.
Climate change knows no borders, and if we’re going to save our sport, our industry, our resorts and our mountain communities from the effects of climate change, it’s time to take action, together. Join us.
